When Mikayla first reached out to me about her maternity session, it was one of those inquiry forms that get me SO excited to jump and say yes!
Right off the bat I felt connected to these two expecting their first baby girl in November (I also had my sweet girl in November) on top of the fact that they are also military; but what really got me excited was the verbiage that Mikayla used when describing the type of photos she wanted to embody this season of life for her and Nate.
Mikayla wanted a more moody, intimate feel to her maternity photos, which told me right away that I would have the ability to approach her session without holding any of my creative tendencies back.
We started her maternity session along Pensacola Beach right at sunset. Her and Nate had one of those connections that just puts you at ease when you are around them. They spent the afternoon snuggling by the waves and taking in these moments together, thinking about their future together with their sweet girl soon in their arms.
Mikayla and Nate booked a Motherhood Bundle with me, which meant that I was able to catch up with them a few weeks after their maternity session again to meet their sweet baby girl in the comfort of their home.
Again, I was met with the same calming energy from their maternity session - just sweet, simple, joy.
From their maternity session to their in-home newborn session, having the honor to document the growth of this family was a stark reminder for why this art form is so important.
One day their sweet girl will be able to look back at these photos of her parents along the beach and see the joy shared between them, just at the thought of becoming her parents. And then she'll turn the page and see the way that she used to melt into their arms and they way they looked not only at her - but at each other.
Motherhood sessions are some of the moments that I feel so deeply called to this work. Just like weddings - these are days that fly by SO fast, and you can't get them back. Maternity sessions and lifestyle newborn sessions allow families to document the changes of their family's season in real-time, and I'm forever grateful to the families that choose me to be the one to capture it all.
